About

I have some queries of my own about why anyone would embark on a project such as this one, but since you’d probably prefer responses to questions you might actually ask, I’ll attempt to answer a few of those. Here we go:

1. What are bopinions?

These are Benjamin’s opinions, “benpinions” for short—or “bopinions” for even shorter. Most bopinions are short commentaries on topics I’ve been exploring through my work, analysis or research.

2. Do they require deodorant?

No, bopinions are not to be confused with b.o.-pinions.

3. But they involve onions, right?

Nope, these are bopinions, not boponions.

4. How often are new items published?

Time for a harsh self assessment: I have a terrible record of holding to a regular opining schedule. So, for the time being, I am publishing items semi-regularly or, if you prefer, not-too-infrequently.

I am aiming for an approximately bi-weekly schedule, but you’ll notice that, sometimes, I will mysteriously be on hiatus* for longer stretches. (*A.k.a. being short for time. Mystery solved, Mr. Poirot.)

5. Can I subscribe to bopinions?

I recommend it! Simply sign up for the bop-in-box! dispatch, comprised of very occasional emails with the latest content. Given the infrequent publishing schedule, this is a great way to stay updated without having to check the site. No need to fear increasing your inbox clutter, either.

And, finally, this is the “About” page, after all… So, here’s a bit about me.

Benjamin Young

The bopinions website is a space for me, Benjamin Young, to share my thoughts in ways I hope you find interesting. I focus on topics to which I bring some expertise or relevant familiarity, often acquired through my consulting work. My projects tend to involve strategy, research and analysis, program development, and communications for a variety of organizations across sectors. Prior to consulting—and after completing a PhD focused on history, literature and society—I spent more than a decade teaching at such institutions as Columbia, Princeton and the École Normale Supérieure.

Drawing on this background, including past roles at organizations as diverse as the US Department of State, the American Red Cross, and Microsoft, some of the areas of exploration on bopinions will include nonprofit strategy, philanthropy, higher education, public policy, and the role of digital innovation across these and other spheres.

Still curious? Please stop by my professional profile. And feel free to be in touch.
